Black River, Jamaica

Along Jamaica’s South Coast you will find the Black River, a wondrous 33 mile ecosystem of nature life to  include the Jacana or ‘Jesus Bird’, crocodiles, and mangroves.  Getting its name from the dark hue created by thickly housed vegetation, the black river often experiences combustion fires due to moss and high heat in the heavily dense areas.  Seated next to the river is the small town of Black River which has a very rich history.   The holder of Jamaica’s first car as well as the first town to have electricity, Black River is just one of the many attractions and serene settings on the South Coast.  No trip is complete without a visit to the Black River.  Contact J. Charles Swaby Black River Safari to schedule your tour.Image
